We had a good turnout for our second AGM, held on Thursday night at St Barnabas Church hall. We’ve come a long way this past year and are making good progress towards our vision of what Wimbledon Park could be. We listened to a report from our chair, Nick Steiner, which included examples of what has been achieved at Burgess Park, a similar sized park to ours (c. 60 hectares). There was also presentation from vice chair Martin Sumpton on the proposed plans for the athletics stadium, involving a complete upgrade and a new hockey pitch. People then had the chance to look at architect’s plans for the site. The evening ended with a glass of wine or two – topics of conversation included the common spotted orchid, eels, plans for a park ‘spring clean’ and photos of the lake from the early 1900s.
