Dave Dawson’s natural history notes for 21st January 2018:-
The geese were out in the grass of the public park in the early morning but, as usual, with the arrival of dog walkers they made their way onto the lake at around 09:00. Hazel catkins were out. This is the best time of the year to spot some things in Horse Close Wood, as much of the understorey vegetation has died back for the winter. Thee hazels were spotted in places not noticed before: one between the glade and the tube line fence and another two south of the main path in the centre of the wood. Evergreens: Holly, Bay and Evergreen oak are all also more readily spotted.
