In response to a recent concern raised by an Associate about health and safety of sandpits in the park, here’s a statement from the Head of Greenspaces at Merton.
“We use ROSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) to review/assess our playgrounds and have done for many years now and will continue so. ROSPA inspect all our play facilities annually (not free) and have not raised this as an issue with us to date.
We have monitoring systems in place. Most playgrounds here are inspected 3 times per week and any sand pits form part of that process. At Wimbledon Park when we have staff dedicated to the water play area then monitoring increases – at a time of more frequent use.
The BV (Beach Volleyball) facility is new and ROSPA won’t be involved in that facility. There is separate maintenance guidance of BV courts too, produced by the BV industry”.
